The Kahala Hotel & Resort, Honolulu, Hawaii: Hotel Review 2017

The last time I was in Hawaii (Maui) was in 2005.  And the time before that was when I was 8 in Oahu. So it definitely takes me much longer than it should to get out there.  I would love to say that this was a planned trip, but it wasn’t.  I originally thought I would go to Miami, because I always go there to relax and unwind and spend some me-time.  These are my exact thoughts: Well, what about California- you’ve been meaning to go there…but you didn’t line it up at all…then I thought well if I’m willing to go that far why not just go to Hawaii? In my mind it all made sense. LOL.. Linda, you’re part Hawaiian, you have family there, you haven’t been there and what an amazing trip that would be!  That’s all I needed to chew on for about 5 hours and pray about until the plan was in motion.  Next thing I knew I was chewing and fixating on Sunday and on a 10 hour flight Tuesday morning!  My daughters were on vacation with their Dad and since I was free for over a week I was beyond excited to go! Get away from New York, but really honestly spend some time out of my regular hustle. I slept zero in anticipation and preparation.  I cleaned my house from top to bottom because I can’t stand coming home to a messy house.  It’s one of my pet peeves.  I also had to make sure Lulu, our Mal-shi puppy was all set up for Grandma and Grandpa to babysit.  We were all going to be away for a week.  And on top of that plan ahead for what I was going to do and where I would stay in Honolulu to the best of my ability.

I had the best trip ever, I got to explore the island, hang out with ohana, surf, sup paddle board, sup yoga, eat delicious food, take pictures, hang out and talk to some really great people. I’m sitting here typing this missing all off this and wondering…what IF we…I guess that happens to everyone…or does it? I don’t know but I’m still praying, contemplating, and fantasizing on what it would be like for my family and I to live there.  Anyway, I want to share what I did, where I ate, what I saw and everything else with you, starting with where I stood…so here goes!

Airline: Hawaiian Airlines

Extra Comfort seats are great.  It took 10 hours from JFK  and about 8.5 from Honolulu back…and in both cases I’m so glad I had sleep to catch up on because that’s exactly what I did most of the time.  They don’t have WIFI yet, and I’m kinda glad they didn’t this time I needed to rest.

Hotel: The Kahala Resort & Hotel

One of the most beautiful hotels and resorts I have had the privilege of staying at!  I had the scenic room…on the first floor and I loved it because I was quickly out to the beach and quickly back! Please consider this place as an option on your trip because it is truly a little bit of heaven in paradise!!

Description from the website: With stunning views of the majestic Ko’olau Mountains by day and by night, the lights from Honolulu’s exclusive residences or partial ocean views overlooking the palm court from a Juliet balcony The Kahala’s Scenic Rooms take luxury to new heights with tropical décor and premium facilities.

As for the rest of the resort, the grounds are incredible. I made sure to take as many photos as I could while I was there.   I’m raving but it comes well deserved- everything from the service, to the spa, restaurants, and activities.  You can meet dolphins, take yoga and other fitness classes overlooking the ocean, do SUP Yoga, SUP Paddleboard, Surfing lessons (which I did and loved) and so much more.  Big Aloha and Mahalo to Melissa the Yoga Instructor, Melissa and Peter from Surf and Sup, and James from the Front Desk.  You all know how to make a hotel guest feel right at home, thank you so much for such great memories. (Favorite Mai Tai is from Seaside Grill- please try it!)  Great Places to take photos: the beach of course, poolside, the waterfall, with the dolphins, the hammock, selfies in the hall mirrors, the main lobby, the steps from main to lower level, and the first sign you see when entering the resort.

The Dolphins at Play!

Hammocks in Hawaii are extra special.

where the beach is…

Sup Yoga Camel,  working on my extension and backbend- since I’ve been nursing some injuries…but this class was amazing.

SUP Paddleboard…I will never pass up an opportunity to do this after this moment again!  What I don’t have a photo of is my surfing lesson…but it was awesome…I got to ride a few waves…my last wave took this newbie 100 yards to the beach…I was the happiest I’ve ever been since completing the Spartan Race.

Lunch and Mai Tai’s at my favorite spot! Seaside Grill.

The Stunning Lobby

On my way out!

Thank you Kahala…I hope one day to return!!
