When it’s time for a delicious cocktail, I must admit I do have to do some preliminary research. That’s when The Up and Up NYC comes in to play. The Up & Up is a craft cocktail bar in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. Ironically, you must follow the illuminated arrow pointing down the stairs leading from MacDougal Street to get in. I learned it’s a historic space, once home to the Gaslight Cafe, the birthplace of the Beat Generation and venue for some of the most storied musical acts. A warm, sweet neighborhood feel that’s a blend of high-end and low-key. This is exactly what I needed to cap the evening.
- the name (love) : Up & Up: honest, trustworthy, fair-minded” It’s an up and up place. She’s an up and up girl.”
- Cocktails I had: 1) Stay Gold (Virgil Kaine High-Rye Bourbon, Ginger, Lime Juice, IPA Beer – This was delicious. I love how when I told the Bartender I am a fan of the Dark & Stormy drink (Rum and Ginger Beer over ice garnished with Lime) he said well how much of a priority is Ginger to you? I said MAJOR. He then said I have just the thing. The Stay Gold did not dissappoint!
- 2) A special “Halfie” mini cocktail that could be considered a shot. All I know is it had Lillet in it and I loved it. That was special order since it wasn’t on the menu and I enjoyed it.
Please check this place out, the decor combination of William Morris wallpaper, marble, brass, and wood is what makes it a great neighborhood cocktail bar in Greenwich Village!
